When rendering Maya jobs with multiple render layers and multiple frames is it possible to get the render layers handled as separate subjobs rather than Qube just dividing the job up by frame only?

I can't answer for qube or for job types. I think this would be difficult to handle.
As of maya 7 when submitting renders with multiple frames and multiple render layers, maya will render each frame individually with all render layers. Even if you run a maya render from the command line with 'render -s 1 -e 10' you will see that frame one with all layers renders before it proceed to frame two.
Qube as it is, really does not know anything about render layers when queuing up a job.
Someone from the dev team will probably have to answer for qube's capabilities.

Hi sosborne76,
Here is a reply from Shinya, the Maya jobtype developer:
You cannot automatically "divide up" the layers into subjobs.
You can, however, pick specific layers to be rendered for any particular submission,
using the maya in-app qube submission dialog.
Hope this helps!

I have used jobs already to render specific layers.
But sub jobs are created according to the number of frames so if all layers are required and cpu's stand free after subjob allocation then it feels like perhaps it could be more efficient. Anyway at least I know that now.
