Title: New Nethalem based Xserve's
Post by: Genom on May 14, 2009, 08:45:26 PM
So, to add to my flurry of posts today, I just noticed this as well. I have 4 new Xserve's with 3Ghz Nethalem processors, and Qube is reporting 16 CPU's on each one (After Effects CS4 is doing the same BTW, and Activity monitor is showing 16 processor markers). Any idea whats up with that? I am assuming Apple and the recently released 10.5.7 patch may have something to do with it, but I dont want to patch until I know it isnt going to break lots of stuff (as they usually do on rushed patches).

I would assume it's a "hyper-threading" kind of thing, and the worker's autodiscovery mechanism is resolving them as physical cores. You can force it back down by explicitly changing that setting in the qbwrk.conf file (or, presumably, by turning off the "hyperthreading" setting in the OS).
