Title: Lightwave on OSX and/or Linux
Post by: njushchyshyn on January 13, 2009, 11:04:01 PM
We're looking to implement Lightwave jobs with OSX and Linux (via wine) workers ... is there a turnkey job type for this or is this something we'd need to build ourselves at this point?

Thanks.

No, we do not have an off-the-shelf solution for LW on OSX.

Because of the way that the LW on OSX renderer is implemented, our
lightwave jobtype only supports Windows.

Having said that, it's probably worthwhile to download and inspect our
LW jobtype, espeically the backend code (which simply calls the lwsn.exe utility to render the scene), in order to implement your own custom LW jobtype.

I've had success with the lightwave jobtype on OSX. The path translation on this forum takes care of going from OSX LW to my farm which is Windows. It works great. The only problem (hassle) is that LW on OSX does not allow you to put a custom path in the render output. You need to edit the scene file in a text editor and change the RGBoutput to the correct path. If you're using LW 9.2 or before there is a free buffer export plugin by DStorm that allows custom paths that can put renders wherever you want. Nothing I've seen yet works for 9.3 and above.

I am going to attempt to get Lightwave working with Qube on a OSX setup. Any tips on what works and what doesn't? this is 100% OSX, so no path translations needed.
