Mix of 3.5 and 4.0 nodes
« on: July 18, 2006, 09:07:16 PM »
Our supervisor is currently running v3.5 and I want to update a few nodes to 4.0 for testing.  Is this possible or does everything need to be running as 4.0, including the job submission machines?

Hey Nine,

Actually, it's ok to mix 3.5 workers with a 4.0 supervisor.  However the 3.5 supervisor will not completely understand what the 4.0 workers will try to communicate to it.   This is because the supervisor's networking protocols have changed between 3.5 and 4.0.  We have maintained a measure of backward compatability from 3.5 clients as well as workers... however 4.0 workers expect to see a 4.0 supervisor. Your best bet is to setup a separate test farm.  If you need licenses to do this, contact sales and they can help you.

     Thanks,
