I would have to recommend Linux. You should be able to find Red Hat for free vs. paying for Win2003. Linux is much easier to maintain than Win2003. qube! was originally built around Linux so it should be quite easy for you to install under Linux. Installation isn't that hard under Windows, either.

Now, that being said, you will need to be cognizant of the "authentication" issue. qube! can be configured to run jobs as either a user (who submitted the job, or impersonating someone else) or as a generic "proxy" user. You will want to make sure that the supervisor sees the same usernames as you have on your client and worker hosts. Whether you do that through NIS or LDAP (Linux) or Windows Domain may make a difference in what you choose for your supervisor host. If you are already a Windows shop, and you have domain controller set up, then you should stay consistant and stick with Windows.

Hey Mokko01,

      The choice between running on Windows or running on Linux is really a question of your staff's technical familiarity.  If you have predominantly "Windows" administrators, then it's probably better to use the windows version of the supervisor.  If you have staff familiar with Linux, then we would recommend Linux.  For the most part, technical issues aside you would pick the operating system you are comfortable with and work from there.

Hey Mokko,

     I'm listing advantages and disadvantages of the 2 architectures:


          Windows:
                    Lots of administrators familiar with it.
                    Simpler installation

          Linux:
                    Relativly few administrators familiar with it.
                    The supervisor is significantly more stable.
                    The supervisor is about 10-30% faster on the same hardware.

        If I had to recommend a platform to work with, I would recommend Linux.  However again this is very dependant upon which platform you are more familiar with.
