Houdini Simulation Data?
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:03:26 PM »
Hi all,

We have Qube at my school and our farm has not been getting to much use lately so I would like to use it to cache simulation data. Is this possible to do and if so are there any tutorials out there to show how to set it up?

Thank you,
James

Hmm...

You can certainly run simulations through Qube.  You can either offload the baking of your simulations to one machine in your farm or you can tile your simulation & use Qube to manage the baking of the sim (essentially making Qube take the place of Hqueue).

If you want to offload the job to Qube, simply create an appropriate output operator for your sim, then use Qube like you would with any Houdini/hbatch/hython type render.

Some information on how to create distributed simulations in Houdini can be found here: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1516&Itemid=216

Information on how to use that with Qube can be found in $QBDIR/scripts/hsim/README.TXT.
